Enhanced photodynamic therapy of TiO2/N-succinyl-chitosan composite for killing cancer cells

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect TiO2/N-succinyl-chitosan composite (TiO2/ NSCS) photodynamic therapy (PDT), while considering effects various light sources on activation photosensitizer. methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay used examine cell survival rate cells. results showed that glioma strain (U251) most sensitive cancer TiO2/NSCS. When concentration TiO2/NSCS between 0 and 800 μg·mL-1, there no obvious cytotoxicity normal liver cells (HL-7702) U251 During PDT process, photokilling under ultraviolet-A (UVA) irradiation stronger than pure TiO2, its killing were positively correlated with time. In addition, both UVA visible could excite TiO2/ NSCS, which had significant acridine orange/ethidium bromide fluorescent double staining Annexin V/propidium iodide indicated kill by inducing apoptosis, apoptosis treatment groups higher TiO2 groups. Therefore, might be as a potential photosensitizer in PDT.
